A skin condition can mean a disease affecting the skin, or skin condition can also describe the texture and appearance of the skin of the face. At Infuse Skin and Body we are proud to offer treatments from rosacea to acne treatment in Peoria.
Hyperpigmentation is a skin condition where there are patches of skin on the face or body that are darker than the normal skin color. This is caused by an excess of melanin. Sometimes called age or liver spots, hyperpigmentation can be caused by sun damage, hormonal imbalance, or an injury to the skin, such as acne, a cut, or surgery (post inflammatory hyperpigmentation).
A series of skin care treatments are generally the best for hyperpigmentation. Chemical exfoliations, microdermabrasions and HydraFacials would all be appropriate treatments for hyperpigmentation.
PCA Pigment Gel with Hydroquinone is recommended as a nightly treatment, along with a retinol and vitamin C product. Retinol is a key product for most skin conditions. Hydroquinone slows the production of melanin, so a gradual lightening occurs.
Sunscreen must be worn or the hyperpigmentation will quickly come back.

Another skin condition that is related to pigmentation is melasma which usually appears as darkened skin in a mask-like form. It is commonly found on the cheeks, upper lip, and forehead. It commonly begins in pregnancy or when estrogen and progesterone are out of balance. Genetic predisposition is also a major factor in determining whether someone will develop melasma. Thyroid disease, allergic reactions to medicines and cosmetics are also thought to bring it on.
A series of treatments are recommended for melasma. Microdermabrasion, HydraFacial or a customized exfoliation may be recommended to improve the appearance of melasma.
Skin care products containing hydroquinone, retinol, kojic acid and vitamin C can help lighten and control melasma.
Oily skin is usually shiny and thick. It can often lead to other skin conditions, such as large pores, blackheads, whiteheads and pimples. The sebaceous glands produce more oil than normal. While oily skin can be annoying, it can also be a good thing. Oily skin ages slower than dry skin.
Exfoliating treatments will help control oil production and the blackheads, milia and pimples that can be caused by an overproduction of sebum. This can slow oily skin leading to other skin conditions.
There are many products that can help control the excessive sebum, including Facial Wash for Oily/Problem Skin, Protecting Hydrator and Clearskin.
Dry skin looks dull and devitalized. It can sometimes feel tight and itchy, and is commonly worse in the winter. Dry skin also shows fine lines and wrinkles more and ages sooner than normal. Dry skin becomes worse with age, and oily skin can become dryer as you age.Treatments to help with dry skin include HydraFacial, Microdermabrasion, Ultrasonic Facial and other specialty facials. Treatments can help prevent dry skin from turning into a more serious skin condition.
It happens to everyone. As they age, their skin changes. The skin gets dryer, fine lines and wrinkles form and turn into deeper lines and wrinkles, age spots appear and capillaries break (and that’s just the beginning). At this point, you have to decide if you’re going to fight it or give into it. If you decide to fight it, quality skin care treatments and products can help prevent aging skin and other skin conditions from developing.
Treatments to help with aging skin include HydraFacial, Microdermabrasion, Ultrasonic Facial, Microcurrent, Chemical Exfoliations and Specialty Facials.
I recommend all people with aging skin should be using Retinol, Vitamin C and Vitamin E (ACE). There are also many other ingredients that can help, such as peptides and Epidermal Growth Factors, just to name a few.
PCA products for anti-aging include Retinol Renewal, C-Quench, Exlinea, Rejuvenating Serum and EyeExcellence.
During perimenopause and menopause, the skin will loose collagen, plumpness, it can become thinner, dryer, elasticity begins to diminish, and wrinkles become more pronounced. Some women develop adult acne which needs to be treated carefully so that the other skin symptoms aren’t accelerated. The two main reasons for changes in the skin during menopause are accumulated sun damage and loss of estrogen. Estrogen is important for the normal function of the skin. It affects fibroblast activty which produces collagen and elastin, it affects the keratinocytes which provide protection to the skin, and it affects melanocytes which affect the evenness of skin color. Estrogen also helps regulate sebaceous gland activity which affects skin oils. Cells in the skin have estrogen receptors which receive instructions from estrogen and with decreased estrogen these instructions don’t get through.
Cigarette smoke causes the blood vessels that deliver blood to the skin to constrict, which deprives skin cells of essential nutrients and oxygen. Smoke also destroys both collagen and elastin, both of which connect skin cells and make them pliable and elastic. This causes smokers to develop lines and wrinkles sooner than non-smokers and have a duller, greyer complexion. The skin can take on a spongy appearance in places and gauntness in others. Smoking can cause many skin conditions to develop. Treatments that are good for smokers skin are the Oxygenating Facial, Chemical Exfoliations and the HydraFacial using one of the stimulating masks with ultrasonic.
Adult acne is a skin condition that is so hard to deal with. You think you made it through the teenage years unscathed, and all of a sudden you have acne. It is especially difficult when you have aging skin that is showing dryness and fine lines and wrinkles. Most of the time, adult acne is due to hormones, stress or cosmetics.A good home care program is important to adults who suffer from acne. Finding the right balance of products is essential so that the skin isn’t dried out too much, thus speeding up the aging process.
