Good sleep is necessary for skin to look its best.  Especially if you are dealing with any kind of skin disease.  People with acne, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis and aging skin can all benefit from a good night’s sleep.  This may seem like a stretch, but stay with me on this.  Your body does it’s major detoxification at night – while you are sleeping.  If your body can’t do it’s job, those toxins have to show themselves somewhere.  It’s probable that your skin will be one of the first outward signs.

One way you can make sure your body can do it’s job is to stop eating at least two hours before bedtime.  That way, while you sleep your body’s resources can be used to detox instead of digesting food.  If your body is digesting efficiently, you are essentially doing a cleanse each night.  Drinking the appropriate amount of water each day will also help this process.

Another way you can get a good nights sleep and help your skin is to power down an hour before bedtime.  Turn off all devices and take care of yourself.  Use part of that hour to take care of your skin.  I have a lot of good evening skin care routines that I can share with you.  A simple one is cleanse, apply your serums and moisturize.  Make sure you spend a few minutes on each step giving yourself a little facial massage with each product.  The more you relax before hitting the sheets, the more likely you will get a good night’s sleep. Remember, if you get a good night’s sleep, the body will be able to do it’s job.  So to recap, all skin conditions can benefit from a good night’s sleep.  Stop eating two hours before bedtime.  Power down and take care of yourself one hour before bedtime.
